My slightly to the left of left politics were forged in the1960s when I travelled the USA witnessing its reality rather than the nonsense of the American Dream…..George Wallace, the Ku Klux Klan, the Black Panthers, people who spoke out being assassinated or imprisoned, people, including my own family, on slave wages and living in rotting shacks, and me, forced into the debacle of the Vietnam War. The music of the time, Led Zeppelin, Moody Blues, Frank Zappa, Woodstock etc, seemed to offer a new vision of America before it disintegrated into a drug-fueled haze. Now cynical about aging ,multi-millionnaire rock icons claiming to be reconnecting with a population shafted by the Bush Years. Enter Bruce Springsteen and “Wrecking Ball.” Hymns to the dispossessed, or the usual exploitative tosh? It’s over to you…….
